  • Ikebana Classes & Workshop Policies

Our classes and workshops are designed to provide a welcoming, respectful, and structured environment in which students can learn, create, and deepen their understanding of Ikebana. The following policies help everyone understand the purpose of each program and what to expect when registering.

    Wednesday Classes — Continuing Study

Wednesday classes are intended for students who wish to seriously study Kado Sensho Ikenobo and progress through the school’s curriculum.

These are progressive instructional classes rather than individual workshops. Students may be working at different levels and progress through the curriculum at their own pace under the guidance of the Sensei.

Our primary teaching season is November through April.

Students may pay $55 per class or enroll for the complete six-month season for $300. The seasonal enrollment includes six Wednesday classes and the flowers and plant materials for each scheduled lesson.

Seasonal enrollment is encouraged for students committed to continuing their study and provides a discounted rate.

A limited number of classes may be offered outside the regular season for year-round students.

    Thursday Workshops

Thursday workshops provide an opportunity to enjoy and experience Ikebana without enrolling in the continuing Wednesday curriculum.

Workshops are offered over a four-month period at $65 per workshop. Participants register and pay for each workshop individually.

Each workshop explores a specific design or seasonal concept and includes demonstration, instruction, flowers, and plant materials.

Advance registration and payment are required so that the appropriate flowers and materials can be purchased for each participant.

    New Ikebana International Members

New members of Ikebana International are welcome to attend one Thursday workshop as an introduction to Ikebana and our teaching.

For this introductory opportunity, the participant pays a $30 flower and material fee.

Advance registration and payment are required through this site or by emailing ikebanabymargy@gmail.com

Participants who become interested in the continuing study of Kado Sensho Ikenobo are encouraged to speak with the Sensei about joining the Wednesday classes.

    Attendance — Wednesday Classes

Regular attendance is an important part of learning Ikebana. Progress develops through continued practice, observation, instruction, and critique.

Because students work at different levels, missing a class does not mean that a student has fallen behind the rest of the class. When students return, they simply continue from where they left off.

Students enrolled in the Wednesday program are expected to make a reasonable commitment to regular attendance.

Students who miss more than three classes during the six-month teaching season may be asked to reconsider their enrollment in the continuing Wednesday program.

Exceptions may be made for illness, family circumstances, travel, or other situations discussed with the Sensei. Whenever possible, students are asked to notify the Sensei in advance if they will be unable to attend.

    Missed Classes and Make-Up Classes
Because Wednesday classes are offered only once a month, make-up classes are not available.

Students who miss a class simply resume their individual curriculum when they return. There is no need to try to “catch up” with the rest of the class.

Thursday workshops are individual sessions. A missed workshop cannot be transferred to another workshop.

Cancellations and Materials — Classes & Workshops

Flowers and plant materials are purchased specifically for each participant and are usually purchased the morning before the class or workshop.

If a student or workshop participant cancels after the Sensei has already purchased their materials, a $30 late-cancellation materials charge will apply.

This charge covers flowers and plant materials that have already been purchased and is not a cancellation penalty.

If a participant has paid the $30 late-cancellation materials charge, the flowers and plant materials purchased for that participant may be picked up by arrangement with the Sensei. Because flowers and plant materials are perishable, pickup should be arranged as soon as possible.

Whenever possible, participants are asked to notify the Sensei of a cancellation before materials have been purchased.

    Wednesday Seasonal Enrollment and Refunds

Students who choose the six-month Wednesday seasonal enrollment receive a discounted rate in exchange for committing to the full teaching season.

Seasonal enrollment fees are generally nonrefundable. Missed Wednesday classes are not refunded, credited, or transferred.

Exceptions may be considered when a student is unable to continue because of illness, an unexpected need to leave the area, or another significant circumstance.

Any refund or credit in these situations will be considered individually by the Sensei.

If a Class or Workshop Is Canceled by the Sensei

Occasionally, illness, weather, insufficient enrollment, or another unexpected circumstance may require the Sensei to cancel a scheduled class or workshop.

If a Thursday workshop is canceled by the Sensei, participants may receive a full refund or transfer their payment to another available workshop.

If a Wednesday class must be canceled, every effort will be made to reschedule the class. If rescheduling is not possible, an appropriate credit or refund will be provided.

    Arriving Late

Students and workshop participants who arrive late are welcome to quietly join the session in progress.

To respect those who arrived on time and to keep the lesson moving forward, the Sensei will not restart a demonstration or repeat the entire lesson for a late arrival.

When an assistant is available, the assistant may help the participant get started. The Sensei will provide additional guidance as the lesson progresses.

    Our Shared Commitment

Learning Ikebana develops through practice, observation, instruction, critique, and respect for the art and for one another.

Our goal is to provide an environment where students can learn at their own pace, develop confidence in their designs, and deepen their understanding and appreciation of Ikebana.

These policies allow us to spend our class time doing what matters most—learning, creating, and sharing the Way of Flowers.

Advance registration is required so that flowers and materials can be purchased for each participant.
